Why India should be your next destination for a family holiday

Looking to book a family holiday? For a lot of people, family holidays involve heading to a safe destination, often one they’ve visited before, for fear of exploring somewhere new with the kids. India, however, should be your next consideration – its many cities, sights and cultures make for one of the most exciting and rewarding family holidays, and here’s why.

It’s educational

Taj Mahal

When on a family holiday, it’s likely you’ll be looking for a way to teach your children about your destination. Thankfully, India offers history and culture in spades; museums, ancient temples and landmarks are just some of the potential places to discover where your little ones can learn a bit more about the country.

Kolkata is a great city regardless, but the Victoria Memorial Hall is often called one of the best in India. With royal galleries as well as exhibitions specific to Kolkata itself, you’ll all be learning a thing or two as you roam the building. Be sure to visit the landmarks, too – the Taj Mahal has a fascinating history beyond its majestic façade that beckons to be discovered.

It has something for everyone

darjeeling

There’s no denying India is diverse. From the bustle and excitement of cities such as Delhi, to the adventure and natural wonder of the Himalayas and the towns you find upon them – Darjeeling being just one of them – you’re truly spoilt for choice, and if you want your kids to see all the world has to offer, India is the perfect place to start.

You could even go deeper and truly experience an authentic side of India by opting to stay in a homestay. Kerala is arguably the best place for it, and your family will live with an Indian family, learning about the ways of life from old stories all the way through to cooking traditional dishes. It’s an unparalleled way to educate the little ones, and one they’ll likely never forget.

You can go on a beach holiday

Kovalam beach, Kerala, India

You may not be aware of it, but India actually has some of the world’s best beaches. Towns and cities such as Agonda and Arambol are renowned for their luscious sandy shores, with turquoise waters stretching for miles – despite a majority of India’s best-known destinations being inland, it’s definitely worth escaping for a relaxing beach holiday with the family unlike any other.

Even Goa, the coastal city renowned for its Portuguese heritage and abundance of history on offer, has plenty of great beaches to relax upon – consider taking the family here for a well-balanced destination.

You can even go on safari

Again, India offers quite the surprise in the form of its wondrous national parks, where you can actually embark on safaris. It’s the only country in the world where you’ll spot tigers and lions coexisting in the wild – but they aren’t the only animals you’re able to see.

From big birds to wild boar, elephants to reptiles, many of India’s national parks offer an abundance of wildlife alongside undeniable natural beauty that beckons for you to come and explore. If your little ones love the zoo, choose to stay at parks such as Ranthambore or Bandhavgarh for an authentic experience in the centre of it all.

It’s one of the world’s most rewarding countries

For an introduction to travelling, there’s no better place to take your kids than India. With such a wealth of culture, history, nature and incredible sights to be discovered throughout the country, not to mention its reputation for safety and warm hospitality, India is your best bet for the perfect family holiday. What are you waiting for?
